An easy kid friendly drink for the cold and spooky season. This Halloween hot chocolate is perfect for serving at your Halloween party, along with other foods, drinks and activities!
Who doesn’t love hot cocoa? Especially around the colder months! I drink it several times throughout the fall and winter, but wanted to switch it up a little for the spooky season!
Every year, we keep it lowkey for Halloween night, with just my husband, daughter, and I. We “throw” a mini Halloween party, with snacks, drinks, and a few activities, which I can’t wait to share with you.
Anywho, with my daughter in mind, I came up with a fun way to enjoy hot cocoa with a festive Halloween twist.
A ghoulish, green hot chocolate served with marshmallows, whip cream, and creepy toppings to give you all the Halloween feels.
This Halloween Hot Cocoa is simple and you can get as creative as you like or keep it basic. But, if you’re in need of warm Halloween drinks to try this season, this easy recipe is for you!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Only 3 Ingredients. Ditch the basic hot cocoa mix! This recipe only requires 3 ingredients to make a delicious homemade white hot chocolate. Most of these ingredients you already have at home.
Customizable. I chose green as my base because it reminds me the most of Halloween, but you can always switch up the colors, sprinkles, and toppings to match any theme you need!
Ingredients for Halloween Hot Chocolate
Milk – You can use any kind of milk for this recipe. I used 2% milk. If you want a creamier hot cocoa, you can use half whole milk and half heavy whipping cream.
White Chocolate – For the best-tasting white hot chocolate use a quality chocolate like Guittard or Ghiradelli. You can either use a bar or white chocolate chips. I don’t recommend using white candy melts (or any color), as the flavor isn’t as rich as real chocolate.
Vanilla Extract – Don’t skip the vanilla! It adds a warm depth to the hot cocoa.
Whip Cream (optional) – I love the look that whipped cream gives to hot chocolate. It allows for all the creepy Halloween decorations to stand out. Feel free to skip it.
Marshmallows – It wouldn’t be hot chocolate without the marshmallows!
Other Things You’ll Need
Food Coloring
Sprinkles
Candies – candy eyes, gummy worms, candy corn, etc.
Spooky Toppings – spider rings, large eyeballs, vampire teeth, etc.

More Fun Ideas!
Line the rim! I love lining the rims of my mug with Halloween sprinkles. All I do is melt some chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, and then dip the rim in the melted chocolate, and add on the sprinkles!
Switch up the flavor. Add in peppermint extract to make a mint hot cocoa. You can add in different spices, like pumpkin or cinnamon.
Hot Chocolate Bar. Make it a fun activity by adding all the toppings in small little cups or charcuterie style and let the kids make their own Halloween drink!
Ghost Marshmallows. Draw ghost faces on jumbo or mini marshmallows with edible markers.
Crock Pot Halloween Hot Chocolate
If you want to make a bigger batch for a crowd or keep it warm longer, you can make this Halloween hot chocolate in the crockpot. Just add all the ingredients to the slow cooker and cook on low for about 2 hours. Make sure to mix frequently, so that the chocolate doesn’t clump or burn at the bottom. When it’s finished, set the pot to warm and make sure to stir occasionally.
Storage Instructions
You can store leftover hot chocolate in the fridge for up to a week. When ready to serve, warm up in the microwave or over the stove.
Allow hot chocolate to come to room temperature before storing it in an airtight container.
